.**Description**This position is responsible for working cross-functionally to implement fuel conservation initiatives to support geographic level fuel initiatives from a process improvement, data/measurement perspective, field testing, OEM & industry peer interaction. This position promotes a safe work environment throughout the system while supervising locomotive engineers on fuel conservation initiatives to improve fuel efficiency in both the United States and Mexico. This position ensures that fuel conservation initiatives are being performed. This position must focus on training and compliance with fuel conservation initiatives and make certain that FRA requirements are met by locomotive engineers. Maintaining current knowledge of standard methodologies in training as well as an understanding of regulatory requirements and fulfilling these requirements is critical to the success of this position, which will also maintain all training records and determine that they meet all FRA training and operating practices requirements in support of fuel conservation initiatives.**Accountabilities**- Supports energy management and fuel optimization initiatives through field implementation and program management of the Trip Optimizer software.- Analyzes data from event recorders to prevent train separations and derailments.- Simulates current train makeup restrictions with event recorder playback.- Simulates and analyzes locomotive tonnage ratings for opportunities to improve fuel efficiency.- Develops an event recorder testing system for locomotive engineers using locomotive simulators and other available technology.- Oversees Wi-Tronix software, managing updates and improvement opportunities.- Implements a virtual Road Foreman of Engines (RFE) locomotive engineer annual evaluation program.- Implements software and hardware updates for event recorders and simulators.- Ensures compliance during set up and execution of fuel conservation testing and implementation of new technologies.- Leads the field execution of testing cycles of fuel conservation initiatives including the crews.- Prescribes and conducts remedial training if necessary for Engineers.- Coordinates with other departments to ensure resources are available to support the testing and implementation of fuel conservation initiatives.- Maintains qualified skills to teach and supervise train crews on the use of fuel conservation initiatives.- Conducts initial and ongoing training for locomotive engineers to include but not limited to safety, operating rules, fuel conservation rules, and any task that may be required in the performance of their duties (training includes classroom and hands-on).- Ensures that all KCS operating rules, bulletins, timetable instructions, general orders and ABTH are closely followed by train crews in regards to fuel conservation initiatives
